EAST MEADOW SCHOOL COUNCIL

The Education Reform Act of 1993 was based on the belief that there must be active involvement of teachers, parents, community members, and administration in making improvements in schools.  These shareholders in educational improvement are viewed as vital partners in education reform who must work together to make improvements in a school. The East Meadow School Council has met monthly this school year.   One new teacher and two new parents joined the council as we looked carefully at all aspects of the East Meadow School.   A parent survey was conducted in March, 2006 and the goals for our improvement plan are related to this survey as well as connected to the goals of the Granby Public Schools District Improvement Plan, 2005 – 2007.

SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN
GOALS
2006 – 2007

School Goals / District Goals

  1. Improve and increase extra-curricular opportunities for students! Expand the new After School Activities Program ( A.S.A.P.) by         working with our coordinator to continue to offer new activities,        including a new summer program involving students from K – 6. Continue to look for other sources of funding for the program.
  2. Use data for decision making!  To continue to use data, especially   Test Wiz data from the expanded MCAS data in English Language   Arts and Mathematics at each grade level in our school, to reflect on individual teaching practices.   Work with school and district data teams to make adjustments in curriculum and instruction.

  3. Improve student performance in math.  Continue to offer our grade level math support to help students at their instructional level and thus offer lower pupil-student ratio in all math classes.

School Goal

  1. Continue to explore new and healthier menu options.  Work with the district Wellness Committee and Food Service to make changes in the menu and snack items offered.
