GRANBY JR/SR HIGH SCHOOL BAND

OVERVIEW

Band is a course oriented toward ensemble as well as individual skill development and performance. Students will work individually at their ability levels, as well as in after school sectionals and in a full band setting to cover the course objectives and learning standards.

PERFORMANCE DRESS CODE

The band has a specific uniform for performances. The uniform is as follows

  • Granby Music polo

  • Full-length (no shorts) solid black slacks (not leggings or tights),

  • Solid black shoes

  • Solid tall black socks or black hose (no ankle socks or sheer hose)

GRADING

Grades are assigned for the band class and performances, which are co-curricular. Grading is currently based off of the following criteria:

  • Personal Responsibility: This includes after-school activities that are scheduled in advance, students having their instruments and music every day, a pencil at every rehearsal, and show maximum effort to earn the best grade.

  • Participation: The student is expected to participate fully in rehearsals, lessons and performances.

  • Preparation: This is based on homework, practicing outside of rehearsal, and class assignments

  • Cooperation: This includes following the lead of the instructor and playing together as an ensemble.
