PUPIL SERVICES

The Pupil Services Department of the Granby Public Schools, under the supervision of Meghan Schepart, Director of Pupil Services, is responsible for special education programs and services, English Language Education (EL), and for monitoring school department compliance with various civil rights policies. The Director of Pupil Services serves as a liaison for educational stability (homeless students, children in foster care, and military children), oversees the integrated preschool program, and monitors the activities of the school nursing team.

Special Education programming provides educational services to students who experience academic or behavioral difficulties because of a disability. Children ages three to twenty-one are eligible for special education services consistent with State and Federal Guidelines. In addition to providing for the academic needs of children identified as having a disability, the program offers related services to assist students in making meaningful educational progress. These services consist of but are not limited to, psychological services, counseling for school-related issues, occupational therapy, physical therapy, vision/mobility training, and speech/language therapy. Students with special needs are provided educational services in a variety of settings ranging from full inclusion in the regular classroom to out-of-district placements. The school the district also provides extended school year services for special education students’ PreK-12 to prevent substantial loss of previously learned skills or substantial difficulty in relearning skills.
