Your child may enroll in our program even if your school system does not participate in the School Choice program.
It is the policy of the Granby Public Schools to admit non-resident students under the terms and conditions of the Inter-district School Choice Law (M.G.L. 76:12B) and the following local conditions that by May 1st of every school year, the administration will determine the number of spaces in each school available to choice students. At a regularly scheduled School Committee meeting, the Granby School Committee will vote to continue to participate in the School Choice program and determine the number of seats available in each grade. The Granby school committee reserves the right to select students according to Mass Gen Law 76, section 12B. Granby Public Schools does not discriminate in the selection of application on basis of race, color, religious creed national origin, sex, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, ancestry, athletic performance, physical handicap, special needs, academic performance, or proficiency in the English language.
School Choice Application 2023-2024 and guidelines for School Choice can be downloaded at www.granbyschoolsma.net or by calling 413-409-5393 to request an application. To be included in the first lottery drawing (if applicable), the deadline for submitting a complete application is June 23, 2023.
The following process will be used in accepting applications for the openings:
1 . Applications from siblings already enrolled, by law, will receive priority placement. Such students will be accepted first if space is available in the grade they are seeking. Once siblings have been placed, if there are more applicants than a number of seats, a random drawing will be conducted among these applicants to determine placement.
2 D.E.S.E. requires a District to conduct a random drawing if the number of applications exceeds the number of openings. The selection of non-resident students for admission will be in the form of a random drawing when the number of requests exceeds the number of available spaces. The drawing, if needed, will take place on or before July 1, and in event of unexpected additional openings, a second drawing will be conducted on August 1, 2023. A waiting list will be kept on file for any student who is not accepted through this process.
3. Students who are accepted will be notified right away. The student’s home district will also be notified immediately. Daily Transportation to and from school must be provided and paid for by the parent/guardian. Please review the parent/guardian guidelines regarding your school choice responsibilities.
